Our courses are taught to a high standard. Learning is further supported by comprehensively equipped training venues and in-depth, printed course information. Presentations, group exercises and practical work are used in a mix that reflects the specific audience and their training needs. Everything is done to give students a detailed understanding and competency in the skills being taught.
PHE is active in many fields of radiation protection:
We draw upon leading experts who regularly contribute to training design and lecturing. In addition we are pleased to be able to include lecturers from other organisations with particular expertise, including lectures delivered by leading industry regulators.
All lectures and group exercises are supported by full course notes designed to accelerate learning. The support material provided is designed to build to a comprehensive post-course reference resource.
In addition to lectures, learning is reinforced by problem solving exercises and demonstrations. In this way students have the opportunity to apply and consolidate newly acquired knowledge. The group exercises provide an invaluable opportunity to learn from other students about a wide range of radiation protection roles.
The Core of Knowledge Module is assessed by a two part examination comprising of multiple choice and short written questions. It provides the prerequisite 'evidence of knowledge and understanding' when applying for Radiation Protection Adviser certification.
All our courses include regular breaks and an excellent buffet lunch where there is plenty of time to network with radiation protection professionals at all levels from a very wide range of industries and organisations.
The scheduled courses run at our three purpose built training centres in Chilton (Oxfordshire), Leeds and Glasgow. The day usually begins at about 9am and ends at around 5pm, with buffet lunch and tea/coffee provided. A nominated course manager oversees the running of each course and remains on hand throughout to deal with queries that arise.
Training courses can be created individually and delivered to meet your schedule. This approach is particularly effective for a large number of students or where discussion on company-specific issues is the focus of the training. Custom courses can be delivered onsite to minimise service disruption through staff downtime and can be delivered at short notice where training completion is business critical.
