Paul is a Principal Radiation Protection Scientist in the Cancer Mechanisms and Biomarkers group of the Radiation Effects Department at United Kingdom Health Security Agency Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards (RCE). Paul has worked at NRPB/HPA/PHE/UKHSA since 1982. Through part-time study Paul gained a HNC(TEC) Microbial Biotechnology at Oxford Polytechnic in 1984 and BSc Applied Biological Sciences at Bristol Polytechnic in 1987. Paul has worked as an Assistant Scientific Officer (1982-1987), Scientific Officer (1987-1991), Higher Scientific Officer (1991- 2000), Senior Scientific Officer/Principal Radiation Protection Scientist (2000-present). Paul has considerable experience in the experimental techniques of cytogenetics, cell culture, molecular biology and flow cytometry and has contributed to 33 peer reviewed publications including 8 as first author.
Paul currently has the role of Departmental Safety Officer for the Radiation Effects Department and Topic Safety Adviser (Biological) reporting to the RCE and Chilton Site Safety Committee.
