Who is the course aimed at?

The radiation employer has a range of obligations under the relevant legislation. This course is aimed at those responsible for implementing the legislation associated with the occupational use of ionising radiation: employers; senior managers; and senior SHE personnel.

What is the course about?

This course gives a broad introduction to ionising radiation safety and in particular the relevant regulatory requirements. The course is suitable for all applications of ionising radiation, including sealed and unsealed radioactive material and x-ray generators and does not assume any previous knowledge or training in radiation safety.

What are the benefits of this course?

The learning objectives are that, on completion of the course, those attending will:

• Be aware of the various types of ionising radiation and the need to restrict exposure;
• Be aware of how ionising radiation is used in the workplace, and recognise actual or potential sources of exposure;
• Have a broad understanding of the key requirements and the application of:
  • the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017
  • the Environmental Permitting Regulations (England and Wales) 2016
  • the Environmental Authorisations (Scotland) Regulations 2018
  • legislation governing the transport of radioactive materials
  • the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017
  • the Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations 2019;
• Understand the responsibilities of the employer for establishing a good standard of radiation protection in the workplace.
